UPROAR Case #HA-0CLU-00120, Sheridan, AR

Grant County Courthouse

Background: The first courthouse was built in 1871 and burned in 1877. A newer one was built in 1880. Two subsequent courthouses were constructed in the 20th century, all at the same location. A number of hangings were conducted in the courthouse square throughout the years.

Claims: People hear footsteps in the hallways and people are seen in the windows when the courthouse is unoccupied.

...A lot of hangings happened in the courthouse square over the years. There certainly could be spirits here that have not departed.

Dan Koch, UPROAR founder

UPROAR Investigated: No

Our take: Most of the accounts we have heard are fairly benign; footsteps being heard, and occasional figures being seen in the windows when the building is unoccupied. We have to wonder if there are some things going on we have not heard about, or things people are reluctant to talk about. The courthouse square was the site of many hangings over the years, and there could certainly be some dark energy associated from that.

Is it haunted: Unknown
