UPROAR Case #HA-1CLB-00028, Conway, Arkansas

Galloway Hall, Hendrix College

Background: This two-story Tudor hall was the first building on the Hendrix campus specifically constructed to serve as a womens residence. It was dedicated in 1933 and named after Galloway Womans College, which merged with Hendrix that year. The hall underwent a major renovation in the summer of 1996 to repair fire damage. Galloway Hall is one of the three campus buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Claims: Rumour has it that a ghost of a young woman nicknamed the Galloway Virgin resides in the attic. Oftentimes one can feel a presence in the halls late at night and noisessuch as someone walking in the atticcan be heard. Cold rushes are frequent and one can even sense an immense feeling of sadness when walking up the stairs toward the locked attic.

UPROAR Investigated: No

Our take: A lot of alleged haunted locations at schools and colleges turn out to be bogus stories designed to scare incoming students. We haven't been able to investigate Galloway Hall, so we don't know if any of these rumors are true or not. However, we are confident that there are other haunted locations at Hendrix College, so that does bolster the claims of a haunting at this location. We would love to speak to any current or former residents of Galloway to hear their stories.

Is it haunted: Unknown
